HISTORY OF
SPANISH CINEMA
1895- First film exhibition took place in
Barcelona which became the main place for
Spanish silent film
1928- Spanish Film society founded in
Madrid
1931- Sound was introduced into film
Late 1930s- Censorship and propaganda
due to Spanish civil war
1975- Censorship lifted
1980- More and more Spanish directors
such as Pedro Almodóvar started to
become internationally recognised 
1982- Spanish film 'Volver a Empezar' won
Spain's first academy award
2009- Planet 51 became the most
ACTORS
Javier Bardem:
A Spanish actor born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1969
on the 1st of March. As. Child he spent his time in theaters
and on film sets. In 2010 he was awarded best actor at the
Cannes Film Festival for his performance in Biutiful.

Penélope Cruz:
A Spanish actress and model born in Alcobendas Madrid in
1974 on the 28th of April. She hosted a SpanidTV channel
Telecinos talk shoe la Quinta Marcha between 1990 and
1997. In 2009 she won best supporting actressfor the Goya
awards.

Goya awards:
•The Goya awards are Spains national annual film awards.
•The awards are divided into 28 categories including:
     Best film                              
     Best director
     Best leading actor/actress
     Best new actor/actress
     Best editing and sound effects 
CINE CAPITOL
Cine Capitol is one of the many great cinemas in Spain.
It is in Gran Via, Madrid.
The Cine Capitol opened in October 1933.
In accordance with a 1926 plan, architects Luis Martinez
Feduchi and Vicente Eced were hired to design the
building in 1927.
The building was constructed between 1930 to 1933. 
The exterior of the Cine Capitol is brilliantly lit with neon
which looks especially outstanding at night. The
auditorium is 30 meters high, and at 32 meters wide,
was built with the widest span in the world at that time.
CINE IDEAL
•The Cine ideal is located in Madrid Spain
on calle del doctor corte.
•It was built on May 10th 1916.
•It is one of the oldest cinemas 
•In 1990 it was acquired by the company
Yelmo Cines and was reformed into a new
complex.
•The venue was designed by José
Espelius.
CINE DORE
oCine Dore is a very famous cinema in Spain.
oCine Dora is in Santa Isabel Street, Madrid.
oIt was designed by the architect Crispúlo Moro Cabeza. 
oIt was built in 1923.
oIt was restored in 1982 to 1990.
oIt is still up and running and has many good reviews.
FILM
FESTIVALS
The main film festival for promoting Spanish
film in Spain is in Málaga
It is called the festival de Málaga and
started in 1988
It is held annually and usually around March
or April
There are many categories of films in this
festival including documentary films and
short films
Awards are given to films at the festival also

There are many other Spanish film festivals


in the world including ones in Amsterdam,
Australia and London
