#MeToo

What is
#MeToo?

The #MeToo movement was created to interrupt sexual

harassment and assault. The movement started in 2006 by
Tarana Burke, and allowed people who were impacted by
sexual harassment/assault to share their stories, and stand
up against it. The #MeToo movement was also created to
support those who have been impacted by sexual violence.
The movement’s goal is also to empower through empathy.
The Hashtag itself went viral when Alyssa Milano tweeted
about the campaign encouraging others to share their stories.
