Thermodynamics
 Science that deals with heat and work (energy
interaction) and their effect on the properties of
materials or working substance.
Like every basic science subject, these subject is
also based on experimental observations/natural
phenomena.
All these observations are formalizes into
certain laws i.e zeroth law, 1st Law, 2nd Law and
3rd laws of thermo.
Principles of energy conversion
technologies are governed by these laws.
Examples: Energy Conversion
Technologies

 Steam & Nuclear Power Plant

IC Engines
Gas Turbines
Rocket Propulsion
Refrigeration & Air conditioning
Biological Systems
Steam Power Plant
Nuclear Power Plant
IC Engines
Gas Turbines
Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle
Power Plant
Rocket Propulsion
Refrigeration & Air conditioning
Biological System
Thermodynamics plays a vital role in the
analysis, development and design of all the
systems , considering such as increase in
efficiency, improved and optimum design
for a dynamic and sustainable society
Concerned with environmental issues
related with all these devices
Objective: We must consider how we can
eliminate or at least minimize damaging
effects, as well as use our natural resources,
efficiently and responsibly.
