Pendahuluan

 Nassal irigation is a popular treatment modality for

various sinonasal diseases including upper
respiratory tract infection, rhinitis, rhinosinusitis,
and postoperative or postradiation care.

 While nasal irigation has been widely used, there is

no concensus on the optimal irrigation solution.

Materials and Method
 Study Population
• Total 82 CRS patients were collected
from out patient clinic of the
Departemen of Otalaryngology between
September of 2015 and April of 2016 .
 PASIEN
Kriteria Inklusi
•CRS was diagnosed when patients had a history of rhinosinusitis
for more than 12 weeks and the nasal endoscopy found
mucopurulent discharge in the nasal cavity.
Kriteria Eksklusi

•Those who took antibiotics within a week before.

Metode
 Study Design
The study was divided into two parts. In the first part, 5 swab specimens were collected from ipsilateral middle
meatus with greater dissease severity using a cotton-tipped stick.
•The first stick was put in a thanswab tube containing 5 ml of amies charcoal medium.
•The other 4 one were each randomly put into 4 glass tubes containing 2ml of HOCl, Normal Saline (NS), 75%
Alcohol or PVPI Solution.
•After one minute, all the stick were transfered to Thanswab tubes.

 RESULT
Culture rates after management for one minute
CRS patient including 23 female and 27 males. The mean age was 56.3 with range 25 to 89 years.
Among 50 CRS patients, bacteria were cultured from 27 (54%) whose nasal specimens were placed
directly into thanswab. HOCl, bacteria were cultured from 26 (52%) patients. Normal Saline (NS)
bacteria were cultured 27 (54%) patients. Alcohol, bacteria were cultured 13 (26%) patients. PVPI
bacteria were cultured 25 (50%) patients. The bacterial culture rate was significanly lower when
sticked were firts placed in alcohol ( p< 0.001)

CRS patient including 13 female and 19 males. The mean age was 52.5 with range 23 to 79 years. Among 32
CRS patients, bacteria were cultured from 14 (43.8%) whose nasal specimens were placed directly into
thanswab. HOCl, bacteria were cultured from 14 (43.8%) patients. Normal Saline (NS) bacteria were cultured
13 (40,6%) patients. Alcohol, bacteria were cultured 3 (9.4%) patients. PVPI bacteria were cultured 11 (34.4%)
patients. The bacterial culture rate was significanly lower when sticked were firts placed in alcohol ( p< 0.001)

 PEMBAHASAN
It has been reported that a low HOCl solution demonstrated strong bacterial and antifungal solution. Choe et al.
Further found that nasal irrigation with a low concentration of HOCl solution improved outcomes of pediatric CRS
patients.

In this study alcohol showed a good antibacterial activity in our previosly study. The culture rate for alcohol was
26% in contact for one minute, 9.4% when in contact for 5 minute, and 2 % in our previous study.

The HOCl solution in this study was NeutoPhase which was stored in a glass bottle and contain pure HOCl (0.01%
concentration in a 0.9% saline solution. It has been shown that NeuroPhase has rapid antibacterial activity.

 KESIMPULAN

This study showed that HOCl solution did not exert an

increased bacterial effect on bacteria in the nassal discharge
of CRS patient within a short time.
