APPLICATION OF HORIZONTAL WELLS:

(a) Increasing the drainage area of the platform;

(b) Prevention of gas coning or water coning problems;
(c) More pay-zone exposure;
(d) Increasing the efficiency of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques;
(e) Improving productivity in fractured reservoirs by intersecting a
number of vertical fractures.

APPLICATION OF MULTILATERAL WELLS:

(a) Drilling footage to primary target area is drilled only once;

(b) More pay-zone exposure;
(c) Reduction of platform costs;
(d) Better utility of existing platform slots and existing wells;
(e) Environmental concerns lessened.
APPLICATION OF EXTENDED REACH WELLS:
(a) Permits satellite field developments from existing platforms;
(b) Increased production by staying in the pay-zone laterally;
(c) Environmental concerns lessened.
(d)Allows access to reserves in environmentally sensitive areas from small footprint
locations;
(e)Reduction in the number of platforms, surface locations and subsea completions
and total wells required to exploit fully a hydrocarbon reservoir.

APPLICATION OF SLIM WELLS: (Slim Wells< 6 inch in diameter)

(a)Exploration and production in mature/immature areas;

(b)High pressure / temperature wells;
(c)Safety (early kick detection);
(d)Environmental (smaller wells>smaller casing size>smaller mud & cuttings
volume);
(e)Logistics (supply requirements is reduced).
