PKU’16
FREEZE DRYER

The Function
1. Used to dry liquids such
as both liquid and
viscous extracts, more
emphasized for drying
extracts with solvent /
water solvent.
2. Used as a preservation
or processing technique
for a wide variety of
products.
MAINTENANCE
1. Operating tools a little longer because many
menu displays that must be setup first
2. should be more careful because many
equipment / accessories made of glass.
FURNACE HIGH TEMPERATURE TUBE
The Function
1. To conduct syntheses
and purification of
inorganic
compounds and
occasionally in
organic synthesis
2. Used for thermolysis
reactions, involving
either organic or
inorganic reactants
MAINTENANCE

1. Keep the burner clean, a clogged tip burner

will raise the need for oxygen, do regular
maintenance to clean the burner
2. reduce heat loss both through the stack /
chimney and wall furnace
GAS CHROMATROGRAPH MASS

The Function
1. To separate and analyze
volatile compounds
2. To identify the
components at a
molecular level
3. Used for the analysis of
unknown organic
compound mixtures
MAINTENANCE

1. Instruments are checked, especially if not

used continuously such as detector, injector,
and impermeable gas connection
2. The gas flow of columns is started or adjusted
by opening the main valve in the gas tank.
3. The column is heated to the desired starting
temperature on old-fashioned instrument.
AUTOMATIC CHEMISORPTION
ANALYZER (CHEMBERT)
Function :
• to obtain
information about
the physical or
chemical properties
of the catalyst,
catalyst support and
variety of other
materials.
MAINTENANCE
• Do not attempt any maintenance on
this equipment unless all sources of
energy are disconnected
• Locked out before perfomming work
on fance or blowers, special caution
must also be taken to secure the
wheel.
AUTOMATIC SIMULTANEOUS (TGA/TDA)
Function :
• To analyze the
sample composition
provides information
on decomposition
temperature,
composition analysis,
flammability studies,
oxidative stability,
and transition
temperature.
MAINTENANCE
• Clean and inspect all mechanical
assemblies, electrical contacts and
sample area.
• Calibrations and adjustments to the
thermal analysis equipment will also
be made.
Scanning electron microscope system
(SEM)
Function to investigate
the surface of a solid
object directly and
produces images of a
sample by scanning the
surface with a focused
beam of electrons. SEM
has magnification 10 -
3000000x, depth of field
4 - 0.4 mm and
resolution of 1 - 10 nm.
MAINTENANCE
• The microscope must be stored in a
dry, dust-free, cool and acid-free
vapor and vapor base.
• In non-optical microscope parts
made of metal with plastic, parts can
be cleaned using fanel fabric.
• To clean the dust that can be tucked
can use a small brush and lubrication
on the hinge
Oven
Function :
Oven is used in
laboratory for a variety
of tasks including
evaporation,
sterilization,
temperature testing, and
for incubating
temperature sensitive
experiments.
MAINTENANCE
Common laboratory ovens maintain
temperatures ranging from just above ambient
to about 300° C and are ubiquitous in
chemistry, biology, pharmaceutical, forensics,
and environmental labs. Units operating at
temperatures above 300° C are normally
dedicated to specialized applications in physics,
engineering, electronics, and materials
processing.
WATER BATH SHACKING DEVICE
A water bath is laboratory
equipment made from a
container filled with heated
water. It is used to incubate
samples in water at a
constant temperature over a
long period of time.
MAINTENANCE
Clean the bath's surface with a soft cloth and
warm water only.
Clean the reservoir and built-in components
at least every time the bath liquid is changed.
ULTRA LOW TEMPERATURE
FREEZERS
Ultra low temperature
freezers are used for
the storage of drugs,
enzymes, chemicals,
viruses, bacteria, cell
preparations, and tissue
samples, among others.
MAINTENANCE
• For biohazards, infectious or potentially infectious
samples
Must be autoclaved or chemically disinfected and have a
certified non-biohazardous waste tag completed according to
the Hazardous Waste Generator's Guide.
• For chemical reagents
Remove the chemical reagents from the freezer and store
them in a well ventilated area, in secondary containment, and
with other compatible chemicals.
AUTOMATIC PURIFICATION
To purrifying nucleic
acids from genomic
viral or seluler origin
is simplified with
high trough out
,automated DNA and
RNA purifcation
system.
MAINTENANCE
• Keep the instrumen in the low
temperature room
• Clean purification after using
FUME HOOD
Function :
1. Protect the user from inhaling
toxic gases (fume hoods,
biosafety cabinets, glove
boxes)
2. Protect the product or
experiment (biosafety
cabinets, glove boxes)
3. Protect the environment
(recirculating fume hoods,
certain biosafety cabinets, and
any other type when fitted
with appropriate filters in the
exhaust airstream)
FUME HOOD
Fume hood maintenance can invlove daily, periodic, and annual inspections :
 Daily fume hood inspecton
The fume hood area is visually inspected for storange of material and other
visible blockages
 Periodic fume hood function inspection
• Capture or face velocity is typically measured with a velometer or anemometer.
Hoods for most common chemicals haave a minimum average face velocity of 18
inches.
• Other local exhaust devices are smoke tested to determine if the contaminants they
are designed to remove are being adequately captured by the hood.
Annual maintenance
Exhaust fan maintenance is performed in accordance with the manufacturer’s
recommendation, or as adjusted for appropriate hood function.
