WHAT IS TOURETTE
SYNDROME?
• 1. Neurological disorder
characterized by repetitive,
involuntary movements and
vocalisations called tics.
• 2. Typical onset in early
childhood or adolescence
between the ages of 2 and 15
History: Georges Gilles de la Tourette

Dr. Georges Gilles de la Tourette, a French


neurologist, first described an 86 year old
woman with this condition in 1885.
The disorder is named after him.
CAUSES
Is unknown
Suspected disorder is linked to abnormalities in
neurotransmitters because abnormal levels of
dopamine,norephenipherin and acetylcholine
found in us
Genetic factors: TS may be inherited from
both parents
Pregnancy and parental problems: stress
during pregnancy, severe nausea and
vomiting during first trimester of pregnancy
