    HIV / AIDS

    What is it?

    • Human Immunodeficiency Virus


    • Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome
    • HIV causes AIDS
    • Compromises immune system and has
    appropriate symptoms
    HIV Symptoms

    • Initial infection has little to no symptoms


    • Symptoms are incredibly similar to Flu
    • The main diagnosed symptoms are only
    detected during the acute stage
    AIDS Symptoms

    • Doesn’t have its own symptoms


    • It allows opportunistic infections and its
    symptoms are derived from them
    Transmission

    • Anything involving the exchange of blood


    • Sex with an infected person
    • Mother to child where the mother has
    HIV during pregnancy, birth or through
    breastfeeding.
    Treatment

    • They all prevent a stage in the


    reproduction of the virus
    • However the have side effects similar to
    having HIV.
    • Treatment of AIDS is improving, people
    are living longer with AIDS
    • Some people seek more traditional
    treatments
