When compound is made, the meaning of the word


is determined by the rightmost word, known as the
"head" of the compound.
Examples:
1. Greenstone
2. Blackboard
A greenstone is a kind of stone and a blackboard is a
kind of board.
B. While "Headless Compounds" is a compound
word that does not have a "head" that
determines the complex meaning. In other
words, the parts of the word do not make the
whole meaning.

• Examples:
1. Faintheart (is not a kind of heart but a kind
of person who has a faint heart),
2. pickpocket ( is not a kind of pocket).
C. Compound that is at least one component
that is reproduced some of them or only
partially as a blend.

Examples:
1. Smog (smoke and fog)
2. Cheeseburger (cheese and hamburber)
D. Blends made up of initial letters are known
as acronyms or acronym is the blend consists of
the literature.

Examples:
1. NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization).
2. SCSI ( pronounced scuzzy, from Small
Computer Systems Interface)
