Background

• Demand is affected by other components.

• Construction activities are affected by the weather conditions,
thus in turn changing the demand for the products.
• The past trends show increase in sales for the latter two quarters.
• Macro-economic problems do not have major effects.
• Yet, through favourable pricing, product innovation and targeted
marketing, Wilkins has thrived through years.
Issues

• Ease of forecasting process

• Methods to forecast demand for a new product
• Reliability of the forecast
• Use of economic data to accurately predict the demand for
individual products
Current Demand Forecasting

• Depends on the past collected data

• Sales history of each product within the family
• Calculate average number of units sold for the last four quarters
• Calculate the proportion of unit sales that each product
• Calculation of annual sales forecast for each product within the
family
Products to deal with

• The main problem with the two products forecasting together was
that company thought they were doing the right set of
calculations.
• When they are individual product without being forecasted
together it was inaccurate.
