HISTORY
• In 1997 with the changed ownership maruti Came under government control From there the
conflict between united front government and Suzuki begins.
• In 2000 a major IR issue begins and the employees of Maruti went for the strike Demanding
majar revision of their wages, incentive and Pension.
• This situation continues through 2001 between employees and maruti.
• The management did not pay attention to union demand

MARUTI SUZUKI
Maruti Suzuki India Limited, formerly known as Maruti Udyog Limited, is a subsidiary of the
Japanese automotive manufacturer Suzuki. It was founded and owned by the Government of
India between 1981 until 2003. It was sold to Suzuki Motor Corporation by Government of
India in 2003.

INCIDENT OF MANESAR PLANT
• Manesar plant was hit by violence on 18 july 2012 .
• Workers attacked supervisor and started fire that killed company official and injured
100 managers .
• Attackers also broke the two legs of companies General manager of HR.
• This incident was worst ever since maruti Started operation in india from 1983.
PROBLEM IN THE CASE
• The main problem was lack of communication between employees and management
• Discrimination in salary distribution system.
• Management was not co operative with labours problem
• Mis understanding among the management
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THIS CASE
• Management should treat all the labours equally.
• Management should understand the need of labour
• Employees – management relationship should had been maintain in a proper way.
• Worker should refrain From taking law into their own hand.
•Company hired contract worker through co HR and not through contractor.
•Haryana gov supported the co and declared it as illegal strike.
•Fresh recruitment of permanent worker terminate the service of permanent
workers involved in violence .
•Re-opened the plant with 300 new workers.
OBJECTIVES

• To know the accurrences at maruti udyog limited in manesar plant which


took place in December 2011 and in july-sep 2012.
• To understand the background of industrial relations at maruti udyog
since its inception.
REASON FOR UNREST
• The wages disparities between regular and contracted workers.
• The plant workers wanted to register new Union, Maruti suzuki employees union but the
management opposed that proposal many times.
• The workers are contarct workers who works for 10-12 hours In return of they gets Rs 4000-
5000 per month.
• Lack of trust between HR and workers.
• They had to bear verbal abuse sometimes they got beaten by the supervisor .
• Communication of intentions at all levels play an important role in reducing
trust deficit.
• It is important to make it a part of study the nature of an average worker, their
social structure, previous history of union activities.
• Regular meetings .
• It is important for HR to treat workers like human.
