 Language plays the significant role in the formation and
maintenance of our intercultural relationship.
 Convergence: the ways in which individuals adapt their
communicative behavior in order to reduce the social
differences.
 Divergence: distancing of oneself from another by accentuating
differences in someone speech (ex. accent, communication
style) or non verbal behavior (ex. Gestures, personal distance)
 English is the lingua franca that is the medium of communication
between people who do not have the same first language

 Attitudes toward age gaps in interpersonal relationship vary in
difference socio cultural contexts. The degree of acceptance or
non-acceptance is depend on the nature of the bond (ex.
Friendship, romance)

 We live together with people who have ability and disability.
 Inclusiveness: general acceptance and appreciation of
differences within a community or society (Orbe and Harris, 2008)
 Social inclusion: the act of giving all people in society an
opportunity to participate irrespective of their background and
characteristic.
 Social exclusion: strongly discouraging or preventing ingroup
members from forming relationships with people who are
disabled or from different social class etc
