1 Components of DVI Technology

 VLSI chip set for the video subsystem

 Well specified data format for audio and video files

 Application user interface

2 Video hardware of a DVI Board
3 Audio Encoding

 Digitized by encoding of PCM or compression of ADPCM

ADPCM = Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation

 Sampling frequencies for PCM are 11025Hz , 44100 Hz

 Sampling frequencies for ADPCM are 31129Hz, 33075Hz

4 Encoding of Still Images

 Any video input signal transformed to YUV format.

 Color of each pixel contains
 One luminance component (Y)
 Two chrominance components (U, V)
 Relationship : (RGB VS YUV)
Y = 0.30 R + 0.59 G + 0.11 B
U = B-Y
V = R-Y
5 Encoding of Video

Two techniques :

1. Presentation Level Video (PLV)

2. Real Time Video ( RTV)
6 Presentation Level Video (PLV)
7 Real Time Video (RTV)

 RTV is a symmetric compression technique

 Two coding techniques.

 Intraframe coding

 Interframe coding
8 Data Stream
A data stream contains audio and PLV encoded video , a
subdivision into single images is the first step. In addition
to actual image data, following information is included.

 Version label
 Information on the choice of interframe or intraframe
encoding
 Height and width of the image
 Huffman tables
 Information if half resolution in vertical/horizontal
dimension
 PCM or ADPCM encoded audio data included
