EARTHQUAKE LOAD ANALYSIS ACCORDING TO BNBC

EARTHQUAKE
Earthquake is the sudden shake of ground surface.

Methods Of EQ Load Calculation

• Equivalent Static Method
• Dynamic Response Method

• Definitions (Art 6.2.5.2) (Self Study)

2
• Base: The level at which the earthquake motions are
considered to be imparted to the structures.
• Base shear: Total design lateral force or shear at
the base of a structure.

3
• Seismic Zoning (2.5.4)
• Seismic Zoning Map: Based on the severity of the
probable intensity of seismic ground motion and
damages, Bangladesh has been divided into three
seismic zones:
• Zone – 1
• Zone – 2
• Zone – 3
• Selection of Seismic Zone & Zone coefficient
(z): Seismic zone for a building site shall be
determined based on the location of the site on the
seismic zoning map provided in Fig. 6.2.10
z is the zone coefficient which represents the
maximum considered peak ground acceleration (PGA)
