NANO TECHNOLOGY Aya Aws Sania Rizgar Supervised by Ahmed Salih WATER BASED DRILLING MUD WBD uses water as a continuous phase Additives are used to change density, viscosity, and to control filtrate losses WBD is beneficial for lubrication, fluid loss control, wellbore stability, and removal of cuttings. OIL BASED DRILLING MUD uses oil as a continuous phase Used in long wells where friction is a critical parameter The oil base can be diesel, kerosene, fuel oil, selected crude oil or mineral oil. Plastic viscosity : Resistance
of fluid to flow
Yield point : Resistance of
initial flow of fluid to move the fluid.
Gel strength: Shear stress at which fluid
movement begins.
Apparent viscosity: Is the shear
stress applied to a fluid divided by the shear rate CONCLUSION
• The addition of different Nano particles enhances the rheological properties
of drilling muds ( water and oil based muds ). When adding Nano material in both oil and water based drilling mud, apparent viscosity, plastic viscosity, yield point, and gel strength increased. This is due to the properties of Nano particles. The obtained graphs exhibited optimal rheological properties, reveals great potential for better cutting suspension properties as well as better cutting lifting capacity of drilling fluids. Nano particles have the capability to decrease shale permeability by plugging the pores.
