What is Structural Design?

Structural Design is an iterative

process of applying engineering
mechanics and past experience
to create a functional,
economic, and, most
importantly, safe structure for
the public to enjoy.
What is a Steel Detailer?

The structural drafter is a very

important part of the structural design
team. Their primary responsibility is
to produce accurate working drawings
and erection plans. These drawings
are used to fabricate the steel in a
manufacturing facility or to assemble
the steel pieces at the construction
site.

Tension and Compression

A Structural Member is in Tension when:

Force Structural Member Force

Tension is the state of

being pulled apart.
Tension and Compression

A Structural Member is in Compression when:

Force Structural Member Force

Compression is the state of

being squeezed together.
