INTRODUCTION
 सर्व शिक्षा अशियान(Education for All Movement), or SSA, is
an Indian Government programme aimed at the
universalisation of elementary education "in a time bound
manner“.

It is 86th Amendment to the Constitution of India making free


and compulsory education to children between the ages of 6 to
14 (estimated to be 205 million children in 2001) a fundamental
right.

 The programme was pioneered by former Indian Prime


Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
AIM OF SSA

 The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan aims to bridge


social, regional and gender gaps, with the
active participation of the community in the
management of schools.
 All efforts to support pre-school learning
in ICDS centres or special pre-school centres
in non ICDS areas are made to supplement
the efforts of the Ministry of Women and
Child Development.
OBJECTIVES

 All children in school, Education Guarantee Centre,


Alternate School or 'Back-to-School' camp by 2003.
 All children complete five years of primary schooling
by 2007.
 Children complete eight years of elementary
schooling by 2010.
 Focus on elementary education of satisfactory
quality with emphasis on education for life.
 Bridge all gender and social category gaps at the
primary stage by 2007 and at the elementary
education level by 2010.
 Universal retention by 2010.
GENDER FOCUS OF SSA

 Special campus for out of school girls.


 Community participation with women
involvement.
 Free textbooks to girls upto eighth standard.
 50% women teachers have to be appointed.
FRAMEWORK OF SSA

 Appointment of techers.
 Training of teachers.
 Motivating parents and students.
 Provisions of incentives-
scholarships,uniforms,textbooks etc.
 Open new school in depict areas.
 Additional classrooms.
 Provision of toilets,drinking water facilities.
EFFECTIVENESS OF SSA
SHORTCOMINGS

Lack of basic ammenities.


Percentage of teachers has gone down
from 40 to 32.
A single teacher is taking all classes from 1-
5.
Attendance of these primary teachers is
very low in schools.
