Ecclesiastes Taller nose…? don’t

say it!
Meaningless! Meaningless!
-used 38x in the whole book of Ecclesiastes
-emptiness, futility, vapor, that which vanishes
quickly and leaves nothing behind
-it’s easy for us to get pessimistic in life
-The Jewish writer Sholom Aleichem once
described life as “a blister on top of a tumor,
and a boil on top of that.”
-The American poet Carl Sandburg compared life
to “an onion—you peel it off one layer at a
time, and sometimes you weep.”
V3 What does man gain from all his labor at
which he toils under the sun?
1. LABOR- signifies both care and toil
-work wearies man, constant fatigue
-world above the sun vs world under the sun
a. Pain is the aftermath of man’s sin
Genesis 3:16- pain in child bearing
Genesis 3:17-painful toil
The worst is death- Genesis 3:19
b. Pain is inevitable-Job 14:1
2. SATISFACTION
V8 The eye never has enough of seeing, nor ear
its fill of hearing.
-seemingly, all of man’s labor doesn’t cure his
thirst and hunger for more

John 10:10
The thief comes to steal and kill and to destroy; I
have come that they may have life, and have it
to the full.
1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast,
unmovable, always abounding in the work of
the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in
vain in the Lord.
Life is “not in vain” if it is lived according to the
will of God.
Conclusion:
True contentment can only be found in Christ
alone!
Give your life to Jesus- He is the way the truth
and the LIFE!
