THE ESSENCE OF LIFE AND DEATH

JOHN-PAUL C. EGOT
BSIT AUTO 1-I
"There are only three events in a man's life; birth, life, and death or it is either one
is not conscious of being born, dies in pain and he forgets to live". Those words are according to
a French Philosopher, Jean de la Bruyere's perspective of life and death, but beyond that three
events of Jean's, it's not that simple and easy why we exist and at the end, we never know when
will be our time of death in this wonderful yet deceiving paradise. Now, I am here today, in front
of you to let you all realize the essence of life and death, that life and death is one. Hopefully, by
the end of the day you, we, rather, would value of what we have today and tomorrow.
Life. “Life’s short, heaven’s forever.” (New Catholic Bible, 2019, John 2:16-17)
Oh, there are a lot of wonderful things and aspects in life. There is birth, childhood, youth and
old age. There is love, tenderness, sweetness, bitterness of relationship, joy of success, pain and
pleasure. If you have kept your mind in a reasonable perception, these are all the things anyone
who could get. But the most prominent and most defining aspect of life is death and that is
beyond the grasp of any mind, no matter how intelligent, smart or intellect you think you are.
Death. “Even in death the righteous have refuge.” (New Century Version, 2005,
Proverbs 14:32) It is the baseline of life. If you can't understand life then you too can't
understand death nor can handle life because life and death? they are like inhalation and
exhalation, they exist together, inseparable. Now that we are mortal, life is playing out the way it
does. Try to wonder, if we are not mortal, there will be no childhood nor old age and we could
not question either if there was really birth. Yes, death is harsh, cruel and any other words
relating to sadness and sorrows yet death does not discriminate, you see, it strips of us
everything. Fame, power, wealth and any other useless actually in the reality of the final
moments of life because at the end of the day, ourselves is what we need to rely on.
Fear not death. “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear.” (New King James
Version, 1982, Psalms 118:6) For it is natural for us mortal beings. Everything is temporary, as
well as we are in this world. Wanting to know what the nature of life and death is through
experience. If you are going to ask me, what happens after death, my answer is to know it by
experience. Well, I'm not suggesting you to die but you must experience the life within you. You
are all busy with stuffs that is likely much important than your life: What clothes would you
wear, love affairs etc. You are trying to elude life in many ways. Life has never caused you pain
or suffering, it's just the body and mind of yours. Death, should be now appreciated like life as a
blessing. Being aware of death, enables you to live each day happily and I believe that we should
live our life to the fullest like there is no tomorrow. This day, will never return, we may reflect of
our past and future but the only reality we have is the present instant. Have always the courage,
to live, take a leap of faith!
