STYLE OF EPIC SIMILES
 Following the epic traditions of homer and virgil ,
Mliton introduces the large number of epic similes
which are scattered throughout in his works. Milton’s
style consists in the excellence of these similes by
which he conveys his meanings.
Simile is an explicit comparison between two
unlike things through the use of connecting
words, usually “like” or “as.” The technique of
simile is known as a rhetorical analogy, as it is a
device used for comparison. The other most
popular rhetorical analogy is metaphor .
Hung on his shoulders like the moon,
whose orb.
Through optic glass the tuscan artist
views.
 Lay floating many a rood , in bulk as
huge
Lights on his feet. As when a prowling
wolf
As whom the fables name of monstrous
size
Stood like a tower, his form had yet lost.
MILTON BLANK VERSE STYLE

It is very difficult to write well in blank verse that is why a

few poets have been successful in handling it .many famous
English writers have used blank verse in their works , such
as William Shakespeare , William Wordsworth &John Milton
Paradise lost is an blank verse poem.

Definition of Blank Verse :

Blank verse is a type of poetry written in a regular meter that
does not contain rhyme. Blank verse is most commonly
found in the form of iambic pentameter.
Difference Between Blank Verse and Free Verse

 Though blank verse and free verse sound like

similar concepts, there are some notable
differences. The definition of blank verse
stipulates that, while there is no rhyme, the
meter must be regular.
 Free verse, on the other hand, has no rhyme
scheme and no pattern of meter. Free verse
generally mimics natural speech, while blank
verse still carries a musical quality due to its
meter.
FOR EXAMPLE:
Of Man’s First Disobedience, and the Fruit
Of that Forbidden Tree, whose mortal taste
Brought Death into the World, and all our
woe,
With loss of Eden, till one greater Man
Restore us, and regain the blissful Seat,
Sing Heav’nly Muse, that on the secret top
Of Oreb, or of Sinai, didst inspire
ELEVATED
SPEECHES
John Milton write in a very dense , allusive and elevated style
in the “PARADISE LOST “
ELEVATED SPEECH IS A CLEAR , BRIEF MESSAGE OR
COMMERCIAL ABOUT YOU.
Milton maintained the lofty tone in the speeches of Satan, as
for the instance in the to Beelzebub . which s Satan encourag
the fallen angle (REBELLIONS) .
SATAN ACCOST TO THE
REBELLIOUS
 What though the field be lost?
 All is not lost –the unconquerable will,
 and study of revenge, immoral hate,
 And courage never to submit or yield

A mind not be changed by place or time.

The mind is its own place, and in itself
Can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven.
What matter where , if I be still the same,
