Folk dance or traditional dance is a dance that grows among the


people, the variety of folk dances grows according to geographical
location, such as mountainous areas, and the coastline, which
distinguishes the shape and dynamics of the dance.

The history of Rentak Bulian
One of the Malay culture in Indragir Hulu is Rentak
Bulian Dance. Rentak Bulian Dance is one of the leading
arts of Indragiri Hulu Regency. Rentak Bulian is a
medical ritual, which is taken from the words Rentak
Bulian. Rentak is meant to flinch or step, and Bulian is a
place to stay for creatures or spirits in the language of the
Indragiri Hulu region.
Rentak Bulian dance is very thick with atmosphere and not
magical, and before the dance rituals are carried out several
things need to be discussed by dancers. The ritual is as follows:
Dancers are composed of two young people, namely 7 (seven)
virgins of beautiful who are not dirty (clean from menstruation),
and 1 (one) mighty young man who memorizes correctly the
movements and practices of each There are no dancers who are
related to the blood of all dancers who get permission from the
traditional elders of the village. Before being watched, the
dancers have been smoked with agarwood. If this dance ritual is
heeded, it will usually get harm that you don't want.
In the course of dance, the dancers will usually choose
balinese dancers by supernatural beings. Usually male
dancers will realize at the end of the peak of dance. At
the time determined by this male dancer it will solve
perhaps as a medium of treatment with other women's
conquests.

• Gong (metal iron tool as accompaniment of the dancer's footsteps)
• Seruling (blowers from seven to twelve hollow bamboo reeds as scales)
• Ketuk-Ketuk (from a lump of old coconut trunk, in a hole resembling a
gong in the Java area)
• Tambur (big drum as bass)
• Krincing(ringing on the dancer’s feet)
