INTRODUCTION

• M-learning is an evolution of e-learning.

• M-learning can be referred to as;
‘the acquisition of any knowledge and skills
through the use of mobile technology,
anywhere, and anytime’. (Geddes, 2004)
Factors Influencing Learner
Acceptance towards M-Learning
Age Factor

• Younger learners are found to

be more open to embrace m-
learning as opposed to older
learners.

(De-Marcos, Hilera, Barchino, Jimenez,

Martinez, Gutierrez & Oton, 2010)
Motivation Factor
• Intrinsically motivated learner
-- self-directed learning.
• Technology competent
learners -- acknowledge m-
learning.
• Learners with higher personal
innovativeness embrace m-
learning positively as they are
more daring and adventurous
(Liu, Li and Carlsson, 2010).
Perceived Usefulness

Factor
Perceived usefulness –
“the degree of which a person believes that
using a particular system would enhance
his or her job performance (David, 1989 in
Ismail, Sarah & Idrus, 2010).
• Learners’ perception towards long-term
usefulness of m-learning
– Useful & valuable contents
– Eg: Critical thinking & problem solving
skills
Perceived Ease Of Use Factor
• Technical challenges:
a) poor connectivity,
b) limited processing power
c) reduced input capabilities
(Wang, Wu & Wang,
2009)

d) small screen size

e) poor screen resolution
CONCLUSION
• Since m-learning is flexible in nature, both
learners and educators should make an effort to
plan and to optimize the use of m-learning.

M-learning only acts as a way

to reinforce learning…
NOT
To replace a blackboard with a blackberry.
