THE BEST INVENTION

EVER!
Kylie Moore
The Compass
The invention of the compass has
made traveling and exploring much
easier. The earliest compasses were
made out of lodestone in China as far
back as 300 and 200 BC. However the
first magnetic compass was designed
around 1190 in Western Europe. On
Amazon, you can get a pretty good
quality compass for about $15-$20.
The Printing Press
The printing press was invented in 1439 by a German man named
Johannes Gutenberg. This invention was truly revolutionary being all
documents and books were generally hand written. For the first time
books could be mass produced much faster and for a fraction of the
cost.
The Steam Engine
The steam engine revolutionized
the means of transportation. It was
invented around 1763-1775 by
James Wyatt. He adapted the old
engine attempts from years prior.
His steam engine design powered
trains, ships, factories, and overall
changed the Industrial Revolution.
Smallpox Vaccination
The first vaccine was created by Edward Jenner in 1796. This vaccine helped
cure smallpox during the widespread smallpox epidemic. It was discovered
when a milkmaid who had gotten cowpox was unable to get smallpox. He
then realized that by injecting cowpox into people, they wouldn’t get the
more deadly smallpox. Because of this invention, the ways of human life have
been changed forever. Vaccines may be controversial at times, but they’ve
helped greatly expand the human life expectancy.
Penicillin
The invention of penicillin transformed
medicine. Scientist Alexander Flemming
discovered penicillin in 1928. He accidentally
discovered it when leaving a petri dish with
staphylococcus bacteria in his lab instead of
an incubator while he went on a two week
vacation. When he returned he discovered a
Penicillium mold spore had contaminated the
bacteria. He noticed the bacteria that had
come in contact with the mold had not grown
and virtually disappeared. This lead to him
using Penicillium as the first anti-bacterial
medicine.
New Invention: Ember Mug
The Ember Ceramic Mug is a new mug that allows you to control the
temperature of your beverage. When you pour your beverage in, you can select
a temperature between 50⁰C-62.5⁰C. It independently keeps your beverage that
temperature for around an hour (estimated battery life). It pairs with the Ember
app where you can customize the temperature. It costs $80 on Amazon which is
a pretty high price, but considering it’s an extremely new product that has never
been done before I think the price fits the product. I think this product will be
successful and people will really like it.
New Invention: Time Locking Container
The Time Locking Container allows you
to set a timer in which you can’t access
the contents inside. You simply turn the
dial to set the time and press it down to
lock the container. These containers cost
$49-$59, which seems to be a lot for a
container. I don’t think this product will
be very successful because there’s other
easier and cheaper alternatives to put a
lock on an object
