Equative, Comparative and
Superlative
• Equative, Comparative and Superlative are special forms of
adjectives. They are used to compare two or more things.
Equative
• An Equative form of an adjective shows that two thing have
the same quality.
• Generally, equatives are formed by using
as + adjective + as.
Physics class is as large as Chemistry class.
Reno is as tall as Reni
Comparative
• A comparative form of an adjective shows that one thing has
more of a quality than another.
• Comparative are formed by using –er and usually
accompanied by (than).

Physics class is larger than Chemistry class


Reni is more beautiful than Reno
Superlative
• A superlative form of an adjective shows that one thing has
the most of a quality compared to a whole group of things.
• Superlative are formed by using –est.

Math class is the largest class in the university.


Reni is the most beautiful girl in the class.
