Why ?
Pregnant woman normally has to increase
her weight during pregnancy. Because of
following reasons :
– Weight could show us nutrition status of the
pregnant
– Could detect any problems of nutrition intake
of the pregnant woman
– It is important to monitoring fetus
growth
The importance of BMI
• Weight increase during pregnancy normally
based on BMI (body Mass Index)
• Normally, weight increasing during pregnancy
is from 11.5-16 kg. these weight is the
accumulation of fetal, amnion, placenta’s
weight.

• The weight of pregnant woman should be controlled as
consistent as possible at least when the first ANC
• In the first trimester, usually it didn’t show weight
pregnancy yet, sometimes it decreased, it is caused
there are any grievance such as nausea and vomiting
that could interrupt nutrition consume during first
trimester of pregnancy
• During second and third trimester the weight increase
0.5 kg in a week
• If it got more, specifically in the third trimester the
possibility of pre eclampsia should be our concern.
• If a pregnant woman got the weight more
than normal limit, it is possible for her of the
following possibility : big fetus, hydramnion
pregnancy, gemeli (Baety, 2012 : 3)
• Weighing for getting weight increasing totally
during pregnancy (Varney,2007:693).
• An upper arm circumference minimally for
woman is 23.5 cm. this measurement could
show KEK.
