• Design Calculations:
 We are taking the wheel axil as our
point of interest for our analysis.
The of forces here are cosidered as the normal forces
acting on the wheel axil.
In verticle forces we have the total weight (cycle + cyclist)
acting upon the axil as shear force.
A total of 1080N force acts.
Shear Force = F/A
F
=  d2
4
295
=  0.0092
4

=46.4MPa at each axil

Cast Iron has 130MPA of shear strength.
So our design is safe in this aspect..
Factor of Safety

N = 130/46.4
=2.8 or 3

Air drag force:
How much air drag will be there if we
run at a theoretical speed of 36km/hr.
As the drag force is given as..
(Cd  PV 2  A)
Fd 
2
Fd = drag force (N)
Cd = drag coefficient
Ρ = density of fluid (1.2 kg/m3 for air at NTP)
V = flow velocity (m/s)
Cd=0.9 for a cyclist in hood position.
A = characteristic frontal area of the body (m2)
Now we want to find the drag force..
Fd=0.5x 0.9x1.2x10^2x0.0279m^2
Fd =2N This force will tend to reduce our speed to
certain limit.
For Arm Wheel

SY
N 

SY =130 Mpa
 =65.597 Mpa

N =2
