living people on earth. • The growth rate keeps fluctuating; sometimes declining , sometimes increasing. • Current projections show a continued increase in population in the near future. Population Growth • Population growth is the change in a population over time which can be quantified as a change in the number of people using “per unit time” as a measurement • Population growth can be both negative & positive i.e increasing or decreasing Population growth determinants Population growth of a country is determined by four factors: Deaths
Births
Emigration
Immigration
Births & deaths are considered to be the natural increase
whereas immigration & emigration are categorised as a mechanical change. What are LEDC and MEDC? • The LEDC means (less economically developed country)includes countries with a lower GDP & a lower standard of living. • MEDC means (more economically developed country ) with a higher standard of living & higher GDP • Indicators used to classify countries as LEDC & MEDC include health, industrial development & education Population issue in LEDC • The population of most less economically developed countries are growing rapidly • Birth rates remain high whereas death rate declines • Birthrates falls & death rate continue to decline. Population growth move towards stability Population issues in MEDC In MEDC the major problem is that of a longer-lived ageing population & the reduction of the birth rate. They have access to family planning. Infant mortality rate is very low in MEDCs and most children born survive until old age so fewer children are desired. Higher living standard & better healthcare mean that people are living longer than in LEDCs . 10 LEDCs COUNTRIES • Chad • Kenya • India • Afganistan • Angola • Gambia • Sudan • Mali • Egypt • Liberia 10 MEDCs countries • UK • USA • Canada • Switzerland • France • Norway • Spain • Belgium • Japan • Russia Thank you .. •I hope you like my presentation on population……
