Monoammonium
.
Phosphate
• monoammonium phosphate (MAP)] is a chemical
compound with formula NH6PO4. It is a white
crystalline solid consisting of ammonium cations
[NH4]+and dihydrogen phosphate anions [H2PO4]−in
equal proportions.
• MAP is a major ingredient of agricultural fertilizers
and some fire extinguishers. It also has significant
uses in optics and electronics.
• Monoammonium phosphate is soluble in water and

• What is MAP crystallizes from it as the anhydrous salt in the

tetragonal system, as elongated prisms or needles. It
is practically insoluble in ethanol.
• Solid monoammonium phosphate can be considered
stable in practice for temperatures up to 200 °C,
when it decomposes into gaseous ammonia NH3 and
molten phosphoric acid H3PO4. At 125 °C the partial
pressure of ammonia is 0.05 mm Hg.
• A solution of stoichometric monoammonium
phosphate is acidic (pH 4.7 at 0.1% concentration,
4.2 at 5%)
MAP Production Process

• Batch/semi - batch reactor

• In the MAP system, the effects of reaction time,
supersaturati on and seed amount on the crystal size
distribution were examined.
Diammonium
.
Phosphate
• First available in the 1960s.
• Diammonium phosphate (DAP) with the
molecular formula (NH4) 2HPO4, is the
best and most commonly used
phosphate fertilizer, because of its high
nutrient content.
• What is DAP
Physical Properties
• Crystal or white powder
• Odorless or has a weak smell of ammonia
• It feels salty and cold
• Melting point = 155˚C
• Insoluble in ethanol and acetone
• Gradually, lose about 8% ammonium when exposed to air
Evaporation is required to form super phosphoric acid.
