About the author
■ Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a British writer and doctor, creator of the
famous fiction detective Sherlock Holmes. He was a prolific author whose
work includes stories of science fiction, historical novel, theater and
poetry.
■ He was a doctor, novelist and writer of detective novels, creator of the
unforgettable master of detective Sherlock Holmes.
■ He was so successful at the beginning of his literary career that in five
years he abandoned the practice of medicine and devoted himself entirely
to writing.
■ His first outstanding work was "Study in Scarlet", where the author creates
the most famous fiction detective, Sherlock Holmes, which was published
in 1887. The author based himself on a professor he met at the university
to create the character of Holmes with his ingenious ability for deductive
reasoning. Equally exceptional are the creations of the characters that
accompany him: his kind and clumsy friend, Dr. Watson, who is the
storyteller, and the arch-criminal Professor Moriarty.
Summary
■ A new case comes to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson: the death of
Sir Charles. He had allegedly died of a heart attack, although the
family believed that he had been killed by a dog.
■ Sir Henry, the heir of the deceased, looks for the detective and his
companion to find out the death of the Lord.
■ Holmes and Watson discover that Stapleton, supposed friend of the
family, would be the heir of the house if Sir Chales and Sir Henry died,
and used the dog to believe that it was reference to the legend.
■ Holmes and Watson, with the help of Stapleton's wife who did not
want to help her husband anymore, managed to save the heir's life.
■ Stapleton escaped, and most likely would have been sunk in the
swamp.
