Objective

Stress developed in two hollow cylinder due to shrink fit and

application of pressure on inner face of internal cylinder.
Geometric property

Inner cylinder
Height=5in

Outer cylinder
Overall geometric for analysis
Material property
• Modulus of elasticity =3 x 10^7 psi
• Poisson ratio = 0
• Mass density = .28383 lbm / in^3
Boundary condition
1.Connection between inner and outer cylinder is frictionless because
both cylinder are constrained only in axial direction
2. Mesh size is 0 .8in
3. Support system is cylindrical in both cylinder and constrain is fixed
axial (as given in problem)
4. Loading condition
pressure of 30000psi is applied to inner face of inner cylinder
Solution

Normal stress on inner cylinder

Normal stress on outer cylinder
Result

cylinder Average stress(psi) Maximum stress(psi) Minimum stress(psi)

Outer cylinder 14728 41308 -11529
Inner cylinder 2844.6 37055 -31563
