INTRODUCTION
 THE JOB:-ASSISTANT CONSERVATOR OF FOREST
 ITS MEANING:- equivalently a Divisional Forest Officer is an officer belonging
to the Indian Forest Service(IFS). The Deputy Conservator of Forests is responsible
for managing the forests, environment and wildlife related issues of a Forest
Division of a state or a union territory of India. He or She is assisted by the officers of
the State Forest Service and other state forest and wildlife officials.
 IMPORTANCE:-
• An ACF is an important officer in the administration of forest divisions
• An ACF inspects nurseries, plantations , supervise timber harvesting works, soil and
moisture conservation works
• ACF manages man-animal conflict in the field and in sensitive cases leads raids to
control forest offences

JOB REQUIREMENT
To be an ACF ,one has to appear ICS conducted by UPSC or respective state PSCs

Education qualification:-
A candidate must have possessed Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or
Institution in India with at least one of the following subjects namely, Botany,
Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Veterinary Science and Animal
Husbandry and Zoology or a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in
Engineering.

 AGE REQUIREMENT:-21-32 YEARS (RELAXATIONS AS PER GOVT. NORMS)


 SEX:- BOTH MALE AND FEMALE
Physical qualities
Height standard for Male candidates

General category-163 CMS

ST /SC category;-152 CMS

Height standard for Female candidates;-

Height-150 CMS and 145 CMS for ST/SC Category

Chest Standard for Male candidates;-

Chest-79 CMS having 5 CMS expansion

Your eye standard must be 6/6 or fit.


On the other hand he or she must be physically as well as mentally fit
SELECTION PROCEDURE
• The selection of candidates for recruitment to the post will consist of. the following
successive stages :
(a) written examination 1400 Marks
• P-1-GENERAL ENGLISH 300 Marks
• P-2-GENERAL KNOWLEDGE 3OO Marks
• P-3-1ST OPTIONAL(P-1)- 200 Marks
• P-4-1ST OPTIONAL (P-2)- 200 Marks
• P-5-2ND OPTIIONAL(P-1)- 200 Marks
• P-6-2ND OPTIONAL(P-2)- 200 Marks
(b) Physical test
(c) Viva Voce Test- 150 Marks
NATURE OF JOB AND WORKING CONDITION
• Conservator of forests work in various domains ranging from crafting working
plans, wildlife conservation, implementation of various schemes, forestry research
and development, training of forest cadres etc
• An ACF inspects nurseries, plantations , supervise timber harvesting works, soil and
moisture conservation works
• ACF manages man-animal conflict in the field and in sensitive cases leads raids to
control forest offences
• You have to do amazing work in the field of wildlife protection, natural resource
management and environmental conservation

• For IFS through UPSC –Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun
In Odisha there are various training institutions for ACF as follows
• Odisha forest rangers college, Angul
• Forest training school, Bhubaneswar
• Forest training school, G.Udayagiri
SALARY AND OTHER BENEFITS
• The selected candidates will be getting a monthly salary of Rs 15,600 to Rs
39,100, along with a grade pay of Rs 5,400
• Other benefits such as usual dearness and others allowances as per
respected govt. norms
• Facilities: An ACF is usually provided an official vehicle with a driver. For
office work he has a clerk and a class four employee. He is provided official
accommodation and one or two helper
PROMOTIONS
• An Indian Forest Service Officer is posted as Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF)
for a short period only. On fourth year of joining the service ( which includes 2 years
spent on training), she become eligible for promotion to Deputy Conservator of
Forests. So it means 4 years as ACF.
• A State Forest Service officer , on the other hand remain as ACF for a much longer
period. Although the duration varies from state to state, it is in the range of 15–20
years.
• Then to CONSERVATOR OF FOREST
• Then to CHIEF CONSERVATOR OF FOREST
