DOUBLE INTEGRATION METHOD

MECHANICS OF DEFROMABLE BODIES

TF 1:30 – 4:00/4:30
FORMULA
The double integration (also called direct integration) method is a powerful tool in
solving deflection and slope of a beam at any point because of the ability to get the
equation of the elastic curve.
In calculus, the radius of curvature  (or R) of a curve y = f(x) is given by:


1  dy / dx 
2 3/ 2

d 2 y / dx 2
1 1 EI
  
d 2 y / dx 2 y '' M

If EI is constant, the equation may be written as:

EI y ''  M

and

EI y '  EI    M  C1 & EI y   M  C1 x  C2
