What is
Embroidery?
Embroidery: is the handicraft of
decorating fabric or other
materials
with needle and thread or yarn.
Spaniards introduced embroidery in
our country centuries ago.
The nuns were the first to make
embroidery articles.
Embroidery is a part of handicraft
making, also includes crocheting,
weaving, knitting, macramé, and
flower making.
Embroidery is a work of art made by
the hands.
Tools for Embroidery
Tape measure
used to measure more than one
foot distance or materials
it is numbered back to back,
usually 60inches long and 150
centimeters.
Sewing Gauge
it is a ruler, usually 6 inches long.
It is used to mark hems for alterations.

Embroidery scissors
Length is 4-5 inches with finely
tape blades
Thimble

It is used to protect the middle finger


when you do the hand sewing. It is
also used to push the needle while
sewing.
HOOPS

Made of wood and plastic


Stretch and hold the fabric
Needle Threader

It is aids in threading the needle and


makes the threading easier, whether
hand or machine needles.
They come with the different sizes. A
needle with a higher number is finer;
no.12 is finest. Sizes 8,9,and 10 are
the needles commonly used in
sewing. Keep the needle pin cushion
or an emery bag to prevent rusting
and being misplaced.

So what is experimentation
with color?
It is where you put colors next to another to
create an effect.
This can be fades, color mixing , tone
change, light to darks. Any type of color
mixing. (think about how you make
secondary colors)

What you should do right
now:
1. Take your note books out and start
drawing ideas for your design.
2. Measure out a 4x4 circle or square
to work in. this will be the size of your
design.
3.Use colored pencil and sharpie to
make your design. –make sure it is
very detailed.
4. Find a piece of fabric you would
like to use. From the box.
