Small Egg Cracks – White (Make Three)

MR – 2, Ch 1 and Turn

Row 1: 1 SC, INC x1 (3)

**F/O and leave a long tail for sewing for the FIRST TWO CRACKS ONLY**

For the third crack do the same steps as the first two crack, but instead of finishing it off, you will want
to continue with a Ch 1 and turn. SC across the bottom three cracks by crocheting them together.

Row 2: 8 SC, INC x 1 (10), Ch 1 and Turn (3 SC in first crack, then connect second crack repeat twice then
INC in the last st).

Large Egg Cracks

Next, you will want to make more egg cracks in varying sizes, just be sure to start each crack the same as
above (MR 2, Ch 1 and Turn/1 SC, INC). I made six more to complete the egg shell all the way around
without any overlapping.
Instagram: PatternsbyJazz

Assembly
Body and Shell
First you’ll want to put the egg shell on the body. To do this, you will slide the shell over the bottom of
the body, almost like putting on a pair of pants, until it can’t go any higher. Depending on how tight or
lose you crochet will determine where it will be sewn on. Mine was sewn to the body at round 16. Make
sure it fits snuggly around the body and is straight before you begin sewing the body and shell together
using the BACK LOOPS ONLY of the shell. We will be using the front loops to add the cracked shell pieces
next.
Instagram: PatternsbyJazz

Cracked Pieces
The first pieces of the cracks to sew is the triple cracks. This helps make sure everything remains center
and provides a focal point to sew around. Sew this piece to the very front of your Togepi using the front
loops of both the shell and the cracks, this will make the transition more seamless and natural looking
when it’s finished.
Instagram: PatternsbyJazz

Next you’ll add the four large cracks to the side of the triple crack piece, 2 on each side. Make sure they
are the same height as the triple crack piece and not any higher, otherwise, you will not have room for
the face later on. Sew them directly to the triple piece again using the front loops of both the shell and
cracks.

Finish placing the remainder of your cracks around the top of the shell where each bottom point touch
at the tips of the corners being careful they’re not overlapping one another. Sew them all on using the
front loops of both the shell and cracks.
Instagram: PatternsbyJazz

Once you are finished sewing on all the cracked pieces to the top of the eggshell, you will want to sew
each individual crack to the yellow body. Make sure they are laying completely flat with no bump or
ripples so when finished, they will look like one big piece flush against Togepi’s body. If you find you
have gaps in-between the cracked pieces, web those together to create the look of a single cracked
eggshell.

Front Back

Left Side Right Side

Arms
Instagram: PatternsbyJazz

Attach each of the arms at angle and directly below the second large egg crack on the side of the body,
making sure to sew the arm right in the middle of the egg crack. You will want to sew them right against
the line of the eggshell using the front loops on both the eggshell and the arms.

Legs/Feet
Sew the legs/feet directly under Togepi at an outward angle and hanging slightly loose. Be sure not to
sew more than ¼ of each foot to his body, this will help him stand.

Head Spikes
This may be the most challenging step when sewing together your Togepi, so I would recommend
placing all five spike in place before sewing them all on.

First spike: Front center of forehead. Press the two bottoms of the spike together, curving it to look like
a crescent shape.
Instagram: PatternsbyJazz

Sew it onto the seventh stitch up from the top center eggshell crack on the triple crack piece; curve it
upward to create that crescent shape.

Second and Third Spike: Sides of the body. Do not fold! Place the full round spike directly above the left
and right arms/above the second large eggshell crack.

Sew it one stitch about the side egg crack, making sure the rims of the spikes are touching the outer
curved points of the first center spike.

Fourth and Fifth Spike: Back of the head. These last two spike will be crescent shaped as that first spike
by following the same step from the first center spike. (Press the two bottoms of the spike together and
curve upward).

Sew each spike 4 stitches to the left and to the right of the front center spike. Curve the sides to create
the crescent shape, making sure the outer curved points are touching the rims of the second and third
spikes. Make sure you are able to see the back two spike from the front of the body, in-between the two
side spikes when Togepi is sitting on a flat surface. If you cannot see them, make sure to adjust them
accordingly. When finished, all five spikes should be touching one another in a star shaped pattern when
pressed flat.

Egg Shell Details (Print out pattern detail page included)

Cut out the shapes in red and blue felt according to print out. **I printed on card stock, cut out each
shape and then traced it on my felt sheets, but it’s because I’m a perfectionist and can’t help it. LOL!**

Next, place the shapes around the shell to fit how you feel it looks right. **I looked up photos of Togepi
online to place them as best as I could match based off the photos I found**

Now there is two ways you can attach the red and blue egg details to your Togepi, first, is needle felting
and roving wool, which is what I did, or you can use black embroidery thread and sew them on. If you
choose the do the needle-felting route, this is my go to needle set. (https://www.michaels.com/outil-
%C3%A0-une-aiguille-pour-feutrage-feltworks-de-dimensions/10187361.html) If you are more
comfortable with sewing on the details, any black embroidery thread will work.

Facial Expression

Outer Eye (Black) Inner Eye (White) Mouth (Two-Toned Pink)

**Sizing may vary depending once again on how tight or loose you tend to crochet. These shapes are for
reference purposes**

Using the black felt, cut out two of the outer eyes, set them aside. Using the white felt, cut out two inner
eyes and place them on top of the black felt towards the top middle of the black oval. Place the eyes
above the triple cracked egg piece and make sure they fit the size of Togepi’s face and you have enough
room for his mouth later on. If you are satisfied with the sizing and placement, hot glue the white felt
pieces in place on the black outer eye felt pieces and set aside.

**If using felt for mouth** Using the pink felt colors, cut out a rectangle shape with the darker pink and
a semicircle in the light pink for the mouth. Place the darker pink directly over the lighter pink piece to
Instagram: PatternsbyJazz

form a similar shape as above. Size them according to what works for your Togepi and if the mouth
looks good, hot glue the dark pink piece on top of the light pink piece.

**If needle felting mouth** Use a dark pink and a light pink roving wool to create the shape of his
mouth, then outline it in black roving wool.

Just as you did to attach the red and blue shell details, you can either needle felt the eyes and mouth to
the face, which is what I did, or you can use black embroidery thread and sew them on.

Last step is to needle felt or embroider the black accent line next to the eyes and you are done!
