How to make Question Tag
1. If the statement is affirmative, the question tag must
negative.

For Example:
a. Tom and Tim are making a bowl of noodle, aren’t
they?
b. John is not smart, is he?
2. If the statement is a prohibition or command, used will
you to question the tag.

For example:
• Don’t be noise, will you?
• Don’t make me upset, will you?
3. If the statement uses verbs, then the question tag use do
/ does or did.

For example:
• Aura buys Amanda Cakes in Bandung, doesn’t she?
• Jack found the key on that desk, didn’t he?
4. If the subject is “I am”, then the question tag use aren’t.
However, if the subject “I am not”, then the question tag is
am I.

5. If the sentence uses modals, then use the modals for the
question tag. Especially for modals have to, use the
word do for the question tag.

For example:
• Clarissa will be come back soon, won’t she?
• Jack can’t drive a car, can he?
• They have to make a film now, don’t they?
6. If the subject uses somebody, everyone, someone,
everybody, no one and nobody, then use they in the
question tag.

For example:
• Everybody went to the restaurant, didn’t they?
• Somebody brought the guitar to my studio last week,
didn’t they?
7. If the sentence contains a word with a negative
meaning, for example nobody, hardly no one, rarely
nothing, seldom, barely then use a positive question tag.

For example:
• No one come to my house, do they?
• She never seems to care, does she?
8. If the subject used something, everything, and nothing,
then use it in the question tag.

For example:
• Something is moving, isn’t it?
• Everything should be ready, shouldn’t it?
9. If the sentence starts with let's, then the question tag is
shall we.

For example:
• Let’s forget it, shall we?
• Let’s draw the good picture here, shall we?
