The Yellow River is called


"the cradle of Chinese
civilization" ,The Yellow
River or Huang He is the
third-longest river
in Asia, and the sixth
longest in the world at
the estimated length of
5,464 km, it flows
through nine provinces,
The Yellow River basin
has an east–west extent
of about 1,900 km.
The Yellow River, which snakes its
way across 3,000 miles of China, has
given rise to catastrophic floods
killing millions of people

Most of the elaborate bronze
vessels made in Shang times
are for use in temples or
shrines to ancestors. The richly
decorated urns are for cooking
the meat of the sacrificed
animals.
The Flag of the Republic of China is red with a navy blue canton bearing
a white sun with twelve triangular rays. In Chinese, the flag is commonly
described as Blue Sky, White Sun, and a Wholly Red Earth

It was first used


in China by “the
Chinese
Nationalist Party”
in 1917 and was
made the
official flag of
the Republic of
China in 1928.
According to the current government interpretation of the flag, the red
background symbolizes the revolution and the golden colors were used
to "radiate" on the red background.

The five stars and their


relationship represents
the unity of Chinese
people under the
leadership of
the Communist Party of
China. The orientation of
the stars shows that the
unity should go around a
center
The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications made of stone,
brick, tamped earth, wood, and other materials, generally built along an
east-to-west line across the historical northern borders of China to protect
the Chinese states and empires against the raids and invasions of the
various nomadic groups.
Several walls were being built as early as the
7th century BCE , these, later joined together
and made bigger and stronger, are now
collectively referred to as the Great Wall.
Other purposes of the Great Wall have included border controls, allowing
the imposition of duties on goods transported along the Silk Road,
regulation or encouragement of trade and the control of immigration and
emigration.
Situated in the heart of
Beijing, the Forbidden
City is the world's
largest palace
complex. It has lavishly
decorated ceremonial
halls and royal palaces
that impress even by
today’s standards.
Temple of Heaven is not a single building but a complex located in the
southern end of central Beijing. Constructed between 1406 and 1420.
The temple was used by the emperor to make offerings to the heaven
and to prey for a good harvest
Situated 13 Km northwest of central
Beijing, the Summer Palace is one of
the largest, (2.9 Sq Km) best
preserved, and most interesting royal
gardens in the world. Chinese
gardens are made up of four things,
Flowers and Plants, Water (three
quarters of the Summer Palace is
open water), Rocks and Architecture.
Although it is called a palace it is not
in fact a single building but includes
scores of buildings, such as temples,
halls, pavilions and towers.
The Ming Tombs cover an area of 80
square km, situated in a valley
bordered on three sides by the
YANSHAN Mountains. Located about 50
km from Beijing, it contains the tombs
of the 13 of the 16 Emperors of the
Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) as well as a
number of tombs of concubines and
eunuchs. Construction started in 1409
and ended when the Ming Dynasty
collapsed in 1644.
Dating from 1882 the Jade Buddha
Temple (also known as the YUFO
Temple) contains two jade Buddha
statues brought to Shanghai from
Burma
On his return to Shanghai he built a
temple with funds that had been
donated for that task. The temple
was destroyed during the revolution
but was reconstructed on the same
site during the period 1918 - 28, in
the style of the Song Dynasty (960 -
1279). The statues were saved from
the original temple and were brought
back to the new one in 1928 when
the new temple was completed
The Terracotta Warriors are located in Xi’an which is in the Yellow River
Basin area of central-northwest China. Known originally as Chang’an
The Terracotta Warriors were created by the Emperor Qin Shihuang
who united China for the first time in 221 BC after defeating six other
states and creating the Qin dynasty which was to give its name to
China.
The Ci’en Temple is situated
to the south of the centre of
Xi’an, and contains the Great
Wild Goose Pagoda, one of
the oldest Pagodas in China
dating back to the Sui (581-
618) and Tang (618-906)
Dynasties.
The Ci’en Temple was
constructed between 581
and 618 and was originally
known as the Non-Leak
Temple.
Xian City Wall was one of the largest ancient military defensive systems
that protected this city Xian from invasion during the ancient times.
Shenyang Imperial Palace, which is also known as Mukden Palace, is
located in center of the city Shenyang. Covered an area of more than
60,000 square meters, it is one of the exciting best-preserved imperial
Palace-like constructions, only after the Forbidden City in Beijing.
 Hanfu

The historical clothing of


the Han Chinese people,
it is also known as
Hanzhuang
 Changpao

A body-hugging one-piece
dress for men.
 Cheongsam
The Cheongsam is a body-hugging
one-piece Chinese dress for women,
also known in Mandarin Chinese
as Qipao and Mandarin Gown in
english.

The stylish and often tight-fitting


cheongsam or qipao (chipao) that is
best known today was created in the
1920s in Shanghai and made
fashionable by socialites and upper
class women
 Ma Po Tofu

Ma po tofu is one of the most


famous dishes in Chuan Cuisine
with a history of more than 100
years. Ma describes a spicy and
hot taste which comes from
pepper powder, one kind of
condiment usually used in
Chuan Cuisine
 Gong Bao Chicken

This is a famous Sichuan-style


specialty, popular with both Chinese
and foreigners. The major
ingredients are diced chicken, dried
chili, and fried peanuts
 Sweet and Sour Pork

Sweet and sour pork has a


bright orange-red color, and a
delicious sweet and sour taste.
 Chow Mein

The "Chow mein" is the


Cantonese pronunciation of the
Chinese characters above,
which means stir-fried noodles.
Generally speaking, this stir-
fried dish consists of noodles,
meat (usually chicken, beef,
shrimp, or pork), onions and
celery.
CHINA shares land borders with a
total of 14 countries in the north,
south and west
People tend to divide China into
four regions, that is, the North,
South, Northwest and the
Qinghai-Tibetan areas. Because
of geographical differences,
residents of each region have
distinctive life styles and
customs.
