CONTEMPORARY ARTS

What is contemporary art?

Is it the same as modern
art?
Modern Art is not the same as Contemporary Art. In
this lesson, we will learn that the terms modern and
contemporary are refer to vastly different periods.

Modern art is that which was created sometime

between the 1860s (some say the 1880s) and the late
1960s (some say only through the 1950s). Art made
thereafter (e.g., conceptual, minimalist, postmodern,
feminist) is considered contemporary.
Contemporary Art can be defined as an art produced
by artist living today.
