Dodo

 Extinct since mid

to late 17th century
 Lived on one tiny
island
 The dodo, bigger than a turkey, weighed about 23 kg (about 50
pounds). It had blue-gray plumage, a big head, a 23-cm (9-inch)
blackish bill with reddish sheath forming the hooked tip, small
useless wings, stout yellow legs, and a tuft of curly feathers high
on its rear end. The Réunion solitaire may have been a white
version of the dodo. The brownish Rodrigues solitaire was taller
and more slender, with smaller head, short bill lacking the heavy
hook, and wings with knobs. All that remains of the dodo is a
head and foot at Oxford, a foot in the British Museum, a head in
Copenhagen, and skeletons, more or less complete, in various
museums of Europe, the United States, and Mauritius. Many
bones of solitaires have also been preserved.
Passenger Pigeon
 Once most common bird
in North America
 Flocks with more than a
billion birds took several
days to pass by
 Last one died 1914 in a
zoo
Tasmanian Tiger

 Last known specimen died in captivity in 1936

ENDANGERED AND
EXTINCT ANIMALS
EXTINCT
 Extinct is when all animals of a kind are dead.

 DODO DINOSAUR
These animals died out of natural causes.
ENDANGERED
 Endangered animals are those who are close to
extinction. They need help to survive.
Those species are mostly threatened by humans.

 TIGER PANDA BEAR

KOALA BEAR
POLAR BEARS
 Because of habitat loss caused by climate change,
the polar bear is classified as an endangered
species.
TIGERS
 Over the past 100 years, tigers have lost 93% of their
historic range. The population is estimated to number
around 3500 tigers, down from around 100,000 at the
start of the 20th century.
ENDANGERED ANIMALS IN CROATIA
 There are many endangered species in Croatia.
Such as: the wolf, the griffon vulture…
SAVING ENDANGERED ANIMALS
 People need to stop hunting animals! And stop
building factories and malls by destroying nature!
Othervise, we will kill them all.
 In the Philippines, some terrestrial species like the tamaraw in
Mindoro, mouse deer in Palawan, Philippine deer, Monkey-
eating eagle, and aquatic species like the dugong found in
Negros, Batangas, and Leyte are in danger of extinction.
THREATENED
There is a particular species that
declines so fast that it becomes
endangered and is said to be
threatened
 In a study conducted by field biologists on population
size and distribution of Philippine fauna, they
reported that as of 1991, 89 species of birds, 44 species
of mammals, and eight species of reptiles are
internationally recognized as threatened. These
include also the Philippine Eagle or Monkey-eating
Eagle in the list of Philippine Endangered Species.
