Introduction
• These days liquid petroleum gas (LPG) is widely used
in many fields, especially in household purposes.
• The leakage of LPG may lead to severe casualties. So
there is a risk of increased accidents, with rise in its
usage.
• So it's necessary to have a system which continuously
monitors the LPG cylinder.
• This project has an effective way of monitoring the gas
quantity in the container and also to detect any leakage
to notify the user by means of internet through IoT
module.

NodeMCU
• The ESP8266 Wi-Fi Module is a self contained SOC
with integrated TCP/IP protocol stack that can give
any microcontroller access to your Wi-Fi network.
• The ESP8266 is capable of either hosting an
application or offloading all Wi-Fi networking
functions from another application processor
• General-purpose input/output (GPIO) is a pin on an
IC (Integrated Circuit). It can be either input pin or
output pin, whose behaviour can be controlled at the
run time.
• NodeMCU Development kit provides access to these
GPIOs of ESP8266. The only thing to take care is that
NodeMCU Dev kit pins are numbered differently
than internal GPIO notations of ESP8266 as shown in
below figure and table. For example, the D0 pin on
the NodeMCU Dev kit is mapped to the internal
GPIO pin 16 of ESP8266.
Arduino UNO
1. Arduino is an open-source prototyping
platform based on easy-to-use hardware
and software. Arduino boards are able to
read inputs - light on a sensor, a finger
on a button, or a Twitter message - and
turn it into an output - activating a motor,
turning on an LED, publishing
something online.
2. You can tell your board what to do by
sending a set of instructions to the
microcontroller on the board. To do so
you use the Arduino programming
language (based onWiring), and the
Arduino Software (IDE), based
on Processing.
Working
• The working of this project is classified in two
different modules.
• In module one the working of Weight
Monitoring System is explained.
• In other module the working of Gas leakage
detection system is explained.
Weight Monitoring System
• The main components used in this system are
Load Cell, Arduino and LCD display.
• The load cell will measure the load placed on
it, and will generate the analog signal
according the change in the resistance of it.
• This signal will be sent to Arduino.
• The LCD will display the measured load.
Gas Leakage Detection System
• The main components of this system are MQ-
6 gas sensor, Node-MCU ESP8266, LED’s and
Buzzer.
• Whenever there is a gas leakage it will be
detected by the sensor.
• The corresponding analog signal will be
generated and will be sent to ESP.
• The LED will glow according to the strength of
the signal received.
• The ESP will send the data to cloud.
• When the leakage will be detected the SMS
will be sent to customer.
Result
• The figure alongside
indicates the system
designed for weight
monitoring.
• We have placed some
load on it, and have
observed the readings.
• The figure alongside
shows the reading
displayed on the LCD
screen when the load is
kept on the system.
• The figure alongside
shows the Gas
detection system.
• When the gas is
detected by the sensor
the led will glow and
buzzer will also buzz.
• The data will be
uploaded to cloud and
similarly the SMS will be
sent to customer.
• The figure indicates the
data which is uploaded
to cloud.
• The cloud service is
ThingSpeak.
Conclusion
• LPG is one of the ‘clean’ cooking fuel with
present consumer base of 17cr in the country and
present coverage is 60% of the households.
• At present, majority of the LPG monitoring kits
available in the market do not implement IoT.
• The LPG cylinder monitoring system integrated
with IoT has been designed after checking its
economic feasibility and by keeping in mind the
needs of the consumers of the Indian market.
Future Scope
• Gas detection sensor mounted drones for aerial
inspection.
• An IoT device or mesh of devices that contains
the necessary sensors to detect hazards and alert
people to them, for ex. SmartCone.
Applications

• It can be the part of smart home automation.

• It can be use in industries and hotels for
monitoring.
• Easily able to sink with Cooking Robot.
• Use to Identifying the leakages and take some
steps.
Project summary
It explains about the most common problem experienced in our day- to-
day lives that is regarding Gas container going empty. Awareness is
generated about the reducing weight of the gas in the container, and to
place a gas order using IOT. The gas booking/order is being done with
the help IOT and that the continuous weight measurement is done using
a load cell which is interfaced with a Microcontroller (to compare with
an ideal value). When it comes it to security of the kit as well as gas
container we have an MQ-6(gas sensor), LM35(temperature sensor),
which will detect the surrounding environment for any chance of heat
generated or any temperature rise. When ever any change is subjected
in any of the sensors (load cell, LM35, MQ-6) a buzzer is triggered.
