the stave. THE STAVE _______________________________________ _______________________________________ _______________________________________ _______________________________________ _______________________________________
The stave is the name of the 5 lines we write
music on. The Treble Clef Clef is French for Key. In Geography a map has a key that tells you what the symbols mean. This is a similar thing. The treble clef is a symbol which tells you that you're about to play higher notes. The Treble Clef lives at the start of the stave _______________________________________ _______________________________________ _______________________________________ _______________________________________ _______________________________________ Notes can be drawn On the lines Or in the spaces
Notice the direction of When the note head is
the stems – up on at the middle of the the right, down on stave or above, the the left stems go down Rhyme for the Lines The notes on the lines can be remembered by the mnemonic Every Good Boy Deserves Football
Every Good Boy Deserves Football
Each note head is centred on the line; half
above & half below Face in the Space The letters of the notes in the four spaces spell the word FACE
Each note head is 'in' the space, touching the
lines but NEVER going over Ledger Lines Sometimes we may wish to go higher or lower than the stave. To do this, we carry on drawing notes, first in the 'space' and then on a mini line which is called a Ledger Line. The note below is called Middle C and it lives at the centre of the piano keyboard. The Musical Alphabet In music we only use the first 7 letters of the alphabet and then repeat them over and over again.
Can you work out what the notes on the ledger
lines above and below would be? ANSWERS
The ledger line above the stave would be A. It's
the letter that comes after G in the musical alphabet.
The ledger line below the stave would be
(Middle) C. It's the letter before D in the musical alphabet.
