DEFINITION:

• Labor: series of events that take place in genital organ to expel the product of conception
(fetus, placenta, membrane) out of the womb through the vagina into the external world.

• Delivery: the expulsion of viable fetus out of the uterus.


NORMAL LABOR

• Spontaneous in onset and at term


• With vertex presentation
• Without undue prolongation
• Natural termination with minimal aids
• Without having any complications affecting the health of the mother and/or the baby
