1945)
 Japanese occupied the Philippines for
three years (1942-1945)
 The American and Filipino Allied troops
liberated the Philippines in 1945.
The Start of the Second World
War
 It started in Europe because Hitler
and his Nazi German troops attacked
Poland on September 1, 1939.
 On December 8, 1941 at 2:30 AM the
Japanese bombed the American naval
base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. (The
Second World War erupted in the
Pacific.)

 In the following days and weeks, the
Japanese Armed Forces continued their
invasion of the Philippines.

 Manuel L. Quezon declared as the
President of the 2nd inauguration of
Commonwealth at Malinta Tunnel in
Corregidor on December 30, 1941.
 President Roosevelt wired President
Quezon to escape to the United States.
 On February 20, 1942 to October 3, 1944
the commonwealth government went in
exile at Washington D.C.
The Fall of Bataan and
Corregidor
 General Jonathan Wainwright was the last
general who fought for Corregidor.
 General Masaharu Homma asked the
American amd Filipino troops to surrender
to the Japanese but they did not agreed.
Instead, they chose to be guerrillas.
The Death March
 One of the cruelest atrocities by the
Japanese during the Second World War
was the infamous Bataan Death March
in April 1942.
 62,000 Filipino soldiers and 11,000
American troops were forced to march
from 7 to 11 days without food, water or
medicine.

Republic
 The Japanese forced the Filipino
leaders to form a new government.
 On January 3, 1942 the members of
the executive commission sent a letter
to the japanese military.

premier, Hideki Tojo came to the
Philippines.
 September 4, 1943 the new constitution
was finished.
 October 14,1943 the Second Republic was
inagurated in front of the legislative
building in Manila.
