Carlos “Botong” V. Francisco

- Born on November 4,1912 in Angono, Rizal


- fond of playing basketball than practicing his skills in painting.
- age of five, Botong lost his father. His father was an ex-
seminarian and a degree holder of the humanities who worked in
a manufacturing of a local wine
- he spent his college years at the University of the Philippines
School of Fine Arts
– One of the greatest filipino visual artist and muralist
– Recognize as a Philippine National Artist in 1973
– One of the modernist artist together with Galo Ocampo
and Victorio Edades known as the “Triumvirate”
– He was one of the first profession of the newly-
institutionalized UST School of Architecture and Fine
arts

Mauro Malang- Santos

– commonly known as just Malang


– Filipino cartoonist and illustrator.
– born on January 20, 1928, in Santa Cruz
– age of 19, dropped out of formal education in order to begin
working in the art department of the Manila Chronicle.
– he apprenticed under Liborio "Gat" Gatbonton, eventually
creating the popular comic strip Kosme, the Cop, Retired for
which he best known.
Mauro Malang- Santos

– 1955, Malang co-founded a gallery dedicated to cartooning known as


Bughouse.
– He was named “Artist of the Year” in 1964 by the Society of
Philippine Illustrators and Cartoonists
– 1981, the City of Manila honored him with the Guide of Arts and
Culture award
– later years, his previously illustrative work moved towards
abstraction, but he remains best remembered for his vividly
colored depictions of women in traditional dress carrying baskets
of fruit and rice winnowers.
