 • April 26,1986.
• At 1:26 am, in the nuclear
power station of Vladímir
Ilich Lenin, workers started
to do a test simulating a
electricity cut.
• They turned off the security
parameters and then, a
rising of power in the
reactor number 4 made an
overheating in the reactor
core, and the hydrogen
inside exploded.
• This freed 500 times more
radiation than the bombs of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki
and caused 31 direct

How did this
occur?
• For getting down the power level in the reactor, the
workers put inside control bars (170), this made the
power went down to 80 Thermal megawatts, the
reactor is normally in 700 and 1000 Thermal
megawatts.
• This started the contamination with xenon,
• Then, the workers removed the bars, but the
minimum quantity of bars had to be 30, they only
left 8.
• This made the power ascend too much, and when
the workers tried to get down the bars again, they
were probably already melt because of the heath of
the reactor.
• Then, it exploded, and seconds later, a second
explosion destroyed the walls of the room.
 • Temperature reached
2500 degrees Celsius
while the radioactive
smoke ascended to the
atmosphere to 1000
meters.
• 36 hours later the city of
Pripyat and everyplace in
a ratio of 10 kms around
the nuclear station were
evacuate.
