HOW LONG?

We use how long with the present perfect to ask


the lenght of a period of time.
Sample: how long have you stayed here?
How long have you learnt english?
How long has she worked here?
How long has he played basketball?
For and since

 We use since or for to answer how long Questions


For: is used to express duration: two years, a long time, five hours, days.
Sample: I have worked here for two years
They have been married for 6 months
We have been ready for about 30 minutes

Since: is used to state a starting point:wednwsday, six o’clock,2001,last


week
Sample: I have been in Istanbul since 2000
Alice has been married since March 2nd.
They have been at the hotel since last Tuesday.
