DATA FLOW DIAGRAM

 A DFD is a graphical representation of flow of data through

information system.

 DFD can be used to visualize a data processing.

 DFD shows what kind of data will be input to the system and what
data is receive as the output . Also it tells where the data will come
from and go to and where it is stored in the process .
SYMBOLS

 Circle :- It represent the process that transform the

incoming data flow in outgoing data.

 Open rectangle:- shows the data storage.

 Square :- It represent the source and destination.

 Arrow:- It represent the flow of data.

CONTEXT DIAGRAM

 A DFD that summarizes all processing activity within the system in

single process symbol

 Describes highest level view of a system

 The whole system is represented as one process

 The data flows that pass between the external entities and the
system.
Creating Data Flow Diagrams

Steps:
 Create a list of activities
 Construct Context Level/0 DFD
(identifies sources and sink)
 Construct Level 1 DFD
(identifies manageable sub processes )
 Construct Level 2- n DFD
(identifies actual data flows and data stores )
Level 0/ Context Level
