Streptokinase

• Sterile, purified bacterial protein from group C beta-

hemolytic streptococci

• Promotes conversion of plasminogen to plasmin

which results in degradation of blood clots
(thrombolytic action)

• Antigenic and promotes production of antibodies

therefore this agent is less effective in reinfarction
which occurs between 3 days to 1 year.

• Regimen:

– 1.5 mega units in 100ml normal saline or 5% dextrose

over 1 hour
