● DOI is an acronym for Digital Object

online resource represented by a string of
numbers and letters
There are 2 ways to identify a doi:

Begins with http://dx.doi.org/ (e.g.:

http://dx.doi.org/10.1037/a0028240)

Begins with 10 followed by a period (e.g: 10.1037/a0028240)

● URL is an acronym for a
Universal Resource Locator or
web address. Unlike a DOI,
URLs can change and are not
necessarily permanent
● Use a DOI, if available, when citing an
online resource. Many citations in
online databases have a DOI available
● Not every online resource will have a
DOI
● If no DOI is available use the URL of
the resource
● Refer to the online
APA(American Psychological
Association) Style on citing
electronic resources.
● Article from Online Journal with a DOI (Digital Object Identifier)
