2. Lunar Eclipse
When a full Moon occurs in the plane of Earth's orbit, the Moon
slowly moves through Earth's shadow. Every time that shadow is seen, its
edge is round.

The farther you go from the equator, the farther the ‘known’
constellations go towards the horizon, and are replaced by different stars.

Describe the true shape of the
earth.

The earth is not a perfect

shape. The true shape of the
earth is “oblate spheroid.”
 The shape of the earth is caused by
its rapid spinning on its axis that
causes the middle (equator) to bulge
and the pole to flatten.

 Summary
People from different time
frames become very curious of
the planet we live in, the Earth.
Many attempts were made in
the past to measure the earth’s
size and shape. Eratosthenes
was one of the many
astronomers who tried to
predict Earth’s size. He used the
well at Syene to measure
Earth’s diameter and got an
accurate estimate.
 Regarding Earth’s shape, some time in the past,
people thought that the earth was flat. Several
experimentations, natural phenomenon and even
expeditions proved that the earth is really round or
specifically, oblate spheroid.
