Experiment & Results
 5 % w/w resin mixed castor oil is used for making

microemulsion using dilution technique. Resin

separated out during dilution. Therefore
microemulsion could not be formed.
Experiment & Results
 ME with cobalt naphthenate as a drying agent is
prepared using dilution technique

Experiment & Results
 Microemulsion formed at the abovementioned

concentration. The same shall be used further for

making ink and testing.

Use
Interesterified
Castor Oil
Discussion
 Main disadvantages of using DCO are

a) Catalyst must be removed from the product, since

DCO conversion is a catalytic conversion.

b) The product is dark coloured.

 Secondary esters of castor oil, formed with drying

oil fatty acid have been evaluated as materials with
drying oil properties.[1]
[1] Kabasakal O.S., Guner F.S., ArslanA., Ergan A., Erciyes A.T., Yagci Y, 1996, Use
of castor oil in the preparation of various oil-based binders, Journal of Coatings
Technology, 68 (860), 57-62
Discussion
 Secondary esters of casor oil are splitted and

conjugated double bond are formed on the ricinoleic

acid chain. This could be used to make synthetic
drying oil with conjugated diene.

 Interestification of castor oil with linseed oil is to be

done and the drying characteristics of the product is

to be checked. May be used ahead if found useful.
Conclusions and plan ahead
 microemulsion with resin mixed oil at 5 % w/w conc. is

not achieved yet.

 Microemulsion with cobalt naphthenate (drying agent)

is achieved at 0.54% w/w conc. The same shall be used
for further ink making. Better drying characteristic are
envisaged.

 Interesterification of castor oil with linseed oil shall be

done and tested for drying characteristic.
